WARSAW, Feb 22 (Xinhua) -- Striving for clean air is one of the government's priorities, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said here on Thursday, following the announcement of a new air-quality improvement policy.

Morawiecki announced at a press conference that the Polish government is launching a thermal insulation program aimed at reducing pollution and increasing the possibilities for insulating homes, especially in the regions where air pollution was most severe.

He emphasized the fact the non-insulated households use much more coal due to heat losses. The government wants to offer subsidies to households for the purchase of more eco-friendly furnaces.

"Today, through launching a wide-scale nationwide building insulation program, we are beginning the struggle for clean fuel, better furnaces, but especially for warmer households, so that [...] we have clean air around us", Morawiecki added.

On Thursday, the Court of Justice of the European Union ruled that Poland had infringed EU law on ambient air quality by "regularly exceeding [...] the daily limit values for PM10 concentrations in 35 zones and [...] the annual limit values for such concentrations in nine zones".
