YANGON, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar is seeking approval from the Union Parliament to sign a memorandum of understanding on the ASEAN-Australia Joint Declaration for Cooperation to Combat International Terrorism, the official Global New Light of Myanmar reported Tuesday.

The aim of the MoU is to increase practical cooperation between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Australia against threat from foreign terrorists, a parliamentarian told the Union Parliament in Nay Pyi Taw Monday.

Meanwhile, State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi will pay a visit to Australia in days where she will also attend the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit to be held in Sydney and is expected to sign the MoU on regional anti-terrorism.

At the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, Suu Kyi will make the trip more than four years after she came to Australia in November 2013.

Myanmar has enacted law and rules on anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism in 2014 and 2015, and is a signatory to 13 UN conventions on terrorism.
