New Kenya head coach meets clubs bosses in first mission

NAIROBI, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Sebastian Migne, the new head coach of Kenyan national football team Harambee Stars, met coaches from the country's top two tiers of football on Tuesday as he settles to his task following his appointment last week.

The Frenchman, who had managed Congo Brazzaville and the Democratic Republic of the Congo before taking the Kenya assignment, said the meeting was his first step toward laying the groundwork for his tenure.

Migne met coaches from the Premier League and the second division National Super League in Nairobi.

"We wanted to invite top coaches in SPL and NSL to create connection between them and I. At the beginning, it's important because they know local players better than me. I don't want to waste time. It was so important to meet them and it was my first mission here," he remarked.

"We were trying to compile some information to plan for the future because at the end of the month we have a camp and friendly games that we are trying to manage, so this was important," the Frenchman added after the deliberations.

Migne is set to unveil his first squad at the end of the month that will take part in three friendlies yet to be confirmed as he gears up to lead Kenya in their second Group F 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against the mighty Black Stars of Ghana in September.

Having lost their opening clash away to Sierra Leone in July last year, Kenya are in desperate need of putting their first points in the board to keep their dream of featuring at a first AFCON since 2004 alive.

FKF President Nick Mwendwa put Migne at the helm last week on a three year contract that covers the 2019 and 2021 AFCON as well as the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. He will succeed Belgian Paul Put, who quit the post in February.
