SINGAPORE, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong witnessed the mutual recognition of Singapore's digital payment platform NETS and Indian platform RuPay at a business event here Thursday.

The link-up of two platforms is expected to serve Indian visitors who transit through Singapore annually, and enable the users of NETS cards and RuPay to make payments in each other's countries.

It will also enable Singapore shoppers to pay for goods and services on popular Indian e-commerce websites via NETS cards, according to Indian media reports.

At the India Singapore Stepping into the Future event, Modi also launched two other Indian e-payment apps in Singapore, which are BHIM and SBI.

The Indian prime minister, together with Lee Hsien Loong, toured an exhibition of local and Indian start-ups in areas such as artificial intelligence, fintech and cyber security at the event.

Modi began his three-day state visit to Singapore on Thursday.
