LONDON, June 22 (Xinhua) -- London Mayor Sadiq Khan on Friday extended his invitation to Londoners to explore the capital's amazing outdoors and help make the city greener this summer as the city holds the first ever London National Park City Week.

The mayor said the National Park City Week is a fantastic way for Londoners of all ages to get in touch with their green side and to explore parks and green spaces.

Taking place from July 21 to 29, the National Park City Week is expected to help Sadiq Khan to fulfill his ambition to declare London the first ever National Park City in 2019.

"At City Hall, we're determined to protect, invest in and improve the capital's natural environment as we work to become the world's first National Park City," said the mayor.

The initiative aims to connect more people to nature and the outdoors to improve health, well-being and social cohesion. It also aims to make more than half of the capital green by 2050.

Working with the National Park City Foundation and partners across London, a vast array of events is planned that will give Londoners the chance to explore the city with walks, talks, explorations, family activities and more.

More than 130 organizations are hosting events, demonstrating the breadth of support for making London a National Park City.
