BANGKOK, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Tuesday called on families nationwide to help authorities combat drugs.

He said drug trafficking and drug uses have gradually declined in the wake of crackdowns by government units which are to be carried out continually and effectually to the extent that this country will be finally free of illicit drugs.

Besides varied sectors of society and authorities in charge of combatting drugs, families nationwide can play a significant role in contributing to anti-drug campaigns, according to the prime minister.

On Monday, Thai authorities destroyed an estimated six tons of drugs which could have otherwise sold for as much as 13 billion baht (about 414 million U.S. dollars) in blackmarket.

The confiscated and destroyed drugs included methamphetamine, crystal meth, cannabis oil and heroin.
