WASHINGTON, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Iran's missile launches have declined sharply since the United States and Israel launched massive strikes, U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine said at the Pentagon briefing on Wednesday.

"Iran's theater ballistic missile shots fired are down 86 percent from the first day of fighting" as of Wednesday morning, said Caine, adding that there's "a 23 percent decrease just in the last 24 hours."

"And their one-way attack drone shots are down 73 percent," Caine said, adding the United States will start "striking progressively deeper into Iranian territory."

Wednesday marks the fifth day of the war. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said at the Pentagon briefing that it's "very early" in U.S. military operations against Iran.

Iran and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah have conducted their first coordinated attacks on Israel amid the ongoing war between U.S.-Israeli forces and Iran, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) told CNN on Wednesday.

One missile was launched from Iran while six projectiles were launched from Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Israeli military was quoted as saying.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on Tuesday said that it had hit the second U.S. Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) anti-missile system in West Asia, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.

Also on Tuesday, Israel's military reported strikes in Tel Aviv from Iranian missiles. ■
