KABUL, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- A U.S. delegation led by Adam Boehler, U.S. president's special envoy for hostage affairs, paid a visit to Afghanistan and held a meeting with Afghan Minister of Foreign Affairs Amir Khan Muttaqi here, spokesman for the ministry Hafiz Zia Ahmad said Saturday.

Accompanied by Zalmay Khalilzad, former U.S. special representative for the Afghanistan reconciliation process, the delegation exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, Ahmad said in his X account without providing more details.

In the meantime, local media outlet Tolonews reported that the meeting focused on expanding bilateral relations, matters related to detained citizens, and investment in Afghanistan. Both sides emphasized the need for continued discussions regarding detainees.

Afghanistan has released at least two American citizens since early this year, and reportedly, another American, Mahmood Habibi, is still held in the country. ■
