KABUL, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- A total of 3,200 bee farms exist in Afghanistan, and the government will continue to support the farmers to expand beekeeping in the country, Mawlawi Shir Mohammad Hatami, spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, said.
"We have 3,200 bee farms across the country and these farms produce 2,200 tons of honey annually," the state-run Radio and Television of Afghanistan (RTA) quoted Hatami on Saturday as saying.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock would do its best to further expand and develop the bee farming industry in the country, the official said, adding that the government would try to find a market for the locally produced honey abroad. ■
