COLOMBO, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's Department of Agrarian Development announced on Saturday that registration is now open for farmers cultivating maize (corn) for the 2025-26 main farming season.
In a statement, the department said farmers can register online as well. It added that all maize farmers are required to register under this system, and that guidelines for registration and outreach to inform eligible farmers have already been issued.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, during the 2024-2025 main farming season, Sri Lanka produced 285,000 tons of maize. The main season accounts for about 90 percent of annual output. ■
