PYEONGCHANG, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Matthias Mayer of Austria claimed the gold medal in Alpine skiing men's super-G of PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games here on Friday.

"It was an awesome run. Now I have my second gold medal," Mayer said. "It is the most special."

After finishing ninth in downhill, where he won four years ago in Sochi, on Thursday, Mayer regrouped himself for the title with 1 minute and 24.44 seconds.

"I don't know what to say. It's just unbelievable. Four years ago I won the downhill and now today I'm Olympic champion in super-G. I have no words for that," Mayer said.

"It's always very tough especially when the races are in such short gap apart. We don't know the hills, that always makes us worry, especially in super-G because we only have little training and that makes this medal for me so special," he added.

Beat Feuz of Switzerland, downhill bronze medalist, bagged the silver of the event, 0.13 second adrift of Mayer.

Norway's Kjetil Jansrud was another 0.05 second further behind on third position.
