YANGON, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's first community radio - Khayae FM for Htantabin township community in Yangon has gone on air, adding to the number of FM line broadcasting from Myanmar Radio, Myanmar News Agency reported Monday.

The Khayae FM, which is operational since Sunday, can be heard for four hours a day with programs on agriculture, livestock breeding, health, education, entertainment and daily news in the Htantabin township.

The government is working towards transition from a state-owned media to community radio services to ensure the voice of the people can resonate through it, Minister of Information Pe Myint told the inaugural ceremony.

Noting that the government has already launched several radio channels for ethnic people, he said more community radios will emerge in the future.

The establishment of the Khayae FM was proposed to the Ministry of Information's Myanmar Radio and TV (MRTV) in August 2017.

There had been six FM lines and five TV channels broadcasting from MRTV.

Meanwhile, five more private group companies have signed a cooperation agreement with the MRTV to operate as content providers for digital free-to-air TV channels in a multi-playout system of MRTV.

The five content providers -- Mizzima, DVB, Fortune, KMA and My Multi Media are set to provide viewers soon with a wider variety of information, views and entertainment programs.

Such move will benefit the country's development, Pe Myint said, adding that a broadcasting council will be formed following the amendment of the broadcasting law and related rules.
