NAIROBI, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan defender Aboud Omar has signed up with Belgian top league side Cercle Brugge ahead of the new season starting in August.

The Harambee Stars player, who had his contract with Bulgarian side Slavia Sofia terminated in April, will return to Europe to continue with his football career in the Jupiter Pro League. Omar, who can also plays in the midfield, made 23 appearances for Sofia.

The move was confirmed on the Cercle Brugge official website and he is set to join his fellow Kenyan Johannah Omollo who joined the club at the start of last season.

Slavia Sofia had terminated Omar’s contracts on allegations he used abusive language towards his teammates and coaching staff.

Omar accused the club of high handedness saying problems started as soon as he expressed interest to leave the club with his contract almost lapsing.

“We are happy to announce the arrival of Omar. He is a player with many qualities, who will certainly make progress and will show himself this season in the Jupiter Pro League,” Brugge Sports director Fran?ois Vitali was quoted on the club’s official website.

Omar had been scouted by several Belgian top tier, but eventually made the decision to move to Brugge. Cercle have played in the Belgian Pro League since the 2003–04 season, having previously spent several years in the Belgian Second Division following relegation in 1997.

Harambee Stars boss Sebastien Migne on Sunday lauded Omar’s move saying it will improve his skills and experience ahead of the Kenya team performance in the Africa Nations Cup where they will meet Ghana in Sept in Nairobi.

Kenya is pooled alongside the Ghanaians, Ethiopia and Sierra Leone. They are third in the group with Ghana and Sierra Leone tied on top spot with three points.

Only the winner of the 12 groups and three best losers will join hosts Cameroon in the finals in 2019. Enditem
