LONDON, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- Gabriel Jesus scored twice and Raheem Sterling added a header to gift Manchester City a 3-1 win over Everton on Saturday and return to top of the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola's men were always in control and deserved the three points that proved the perfect riposte to last weekend's loss at Chelsea.

They are now two points ahead of Liverpool, who could regain the top place if they beat Manchester United at home on Sunday.

Jesus, who had not scored a league goal since August, scored his first league goal in 12 matches on a through pass from Leroy Sane in the 26th minute.

The 21-year-old Brazilian scored his second early in the second half, heading a Sane cross past Toffees keeper Jordan Pickford.

Everton gave themselves hope just after the hour when Dominic Calvert Lewin made it 2-1 with a header. But substitute Sterling headed in Fernandinho's cross four minutes later with his first touch.

"The players responded in a marvellous way," Guardiola said. "Everton have top players. Today was tricky - a dangerous, dangerous game. They drew at Stamford Bridge, at Liverpool it came down to the last second. I am very pleased."

Christian Eriksen stepped off the bench to smash home a 91st-minute winner at Wembley to give Tottenham Hotspur a 1-0 victory over Burnley.

Tottenham totally dominated with over 70 percent possession, Hugo Lloris not having a save, but the game looked very much likely to finish goalless because of Burnley's tight defense.

Eriksen took Harry Kane's pass and fired past Burnley keeper Joe Hart to keep the London side third at the table.

West Ham earned a fourth consecutive league win for the first time in almost five years to keep Fulham bottom of the table. Robert Snodgrass opened the scoring from Felipe Anderson's pass in the 17th minute, and Michail Antonio doubled the lead 12 minutes later.

Watford held off a late Cardiff comeback to seal a 3-2 victory, their first league win since October.

Three fine goals from Gerard Deulofeu, Jose Holebas and Domingos Quinas saw Watford cruise into a comfortable lead. But with 10 minutes remaining, Junior Hoilett pulled back a goal before Bobby Reid added a second.

Bournemouth suffered a sixth defeat in seven games as they were by beaten by Wolves 2-0. Crystal Palace edged Leicester 1-0 at home thanks to a goal from captain Luka Milivojevic. Newcastle United defeated Huddersfield Town 1-0.
