NICOSIA, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Year of the Pig will be celebrated in style and pomp, the Cyprus-China Art, Culture and Education Center revealed on Tuesday, promising three days of vibrant and colorful festivities ahead the turn of the Chinese year on Feb. 5.

"The festivities will bring traditional Chinese Spring festivities and rituals to the community of Cyprus," said Han Meimei, director of the Educational Center in a statement.

Festivities will include live multicultural performances on stage by a Chinese Acrobatic Troupe, a dance group performance by the Cyprus Overseas Chinese, a special Chinese New Year food show, a food culture photo exhibition and a New Year fireworks show.

"The Chinese New Year is the most important festive celebration of Chinese culture. It is celebrated all over the world by Chinese families and communities," said Han.

The events will involve the Chinese Friendship Association Cyprus, the Strovolos Municipality, the International Exchange and Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, the Chinese Embassy in Cyprus, the Chinese Cuisine Association and the Larnaca Municipality.

The first event will be held on Jan. 20, at the Strovolos Municipality square with a 30-stall bazaar offering Chinese souvenirs and much more.

A culinary journey will be made on Jan. 22, as the food and culture photo exhibition Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage will take place alongside an acrobatic performance and a fireworks show.

The festivities will move the following day to the capital Nicosia and also to Larnaca's municipal theatre, to bring to the people of the two sister-cities Chinese souvenirs, culinary delights, fashion accessories for traditional Chinese clothing, festive decorations, calligraphy, Chinese painting and crafts and much more.

"Our goal of organizing this event is to increase awareness of the Chinese culture and developments in Cyprus, as well as to provide an opportunity for the community to enjoy the happiness of the Chinese New Year," Han said.
