STOCKHOLM, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Meat from the Polish slaughterhouse suspected of selling meat from sick animals has been sold to companies in Sweden. The National Food Agency in Sweden confirmed on Wednesday that the meat was sold to four companies in different parts of the country.

"According to reports, the company has sold uninspected meat from sick animals. It is a serious violation of food law and completely unacceptable", said Louise Nyholm, state inspector for the National Food Agency, in a press release on Wednesday.

240 kilograms of meat were sold to four Swedish import companies, the National Food Agency told Swedish Television (SVT).

Those companies have chosen not to comment on the situation until they have investigated further.

The meat has been tracked with the help of an EU warning system for foods that may pose a risk to human health.

According to SVT, the situation came to light after an undercover reporter for the Polish TV channel TVN24 revealed that the slaughterhouse bought and slaughtered sick cows. The footage shows workers removing tumors and ulcers before the meat is stamped and approved for human consumption. And it also shows that some of the cows were so sick that they were unable to stand as they were dragged towards the plant to be slaughtered.

SVT reported that the veterinarians who were responsible in this case have been dismissed. Authorities in Poland have now closed the slaughterhouse.
