RIO DE JANEIRO, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian presidential spokesperson Otavio Rego Barros on Friday reiterated the humanitarian character of Brazil's aid to Venezuela.

According to Rego Barros, some 200 tons of food products, including beans, rice, sugar, coffee, powdered milk and salt, as well as medicine, are currently in the northern Brazilian state of Roraima which borders Venezuela, awaiting pickup.

"The Brazilian operation has an exclusively humanitarian character, and there is not an interest of our country in any other fronts at this moment," Rego Barros stressed.

Brazil, the United States and other countries in the region, which have recognized Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido as the country's rightful interim president, have declared their plan to deliver aid into Venezuela on Saturday, a move seen by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro as the first step toward a possible foreign invasion.

As the Venezuela-Brazil border has been sealed off under Maduro's order, it remains unclear whether the Brazilian shipment will be picked up by Guaido supporters as scheduled.

Rego Barros said Brazil is not considering any possibility of attack at this moment with its border operations. He also said the rumors that Venezuela had pointed missiles at Brazil remain unconfirmed and that the Brazilian government does not think there is such a possibility.

On Monday, Brazilian Vice President Hamilton Mourao will attend a meeting of the Lima Group in Colombia where members of the group will discuss the situation in Venezuela.
