PHNOM PENH, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia on Thursday presented the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) to hundreds of university teachers and students here to celebrate the LMC Week 2019.

Before the presentation, a short video, featuring lifestyles and traditions of residents along the Lancang-Mekong river as well as LMC activities, was screened.

The LMC consists of six countries, namely China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.

Sok Siphana, chairman of the National Secretariat of Cambodia for the LMC, said the LMC aims at promoting socio-economic development in the member countries, and supporting the ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Community Building and ASEAN-China Cooperation.

"Its goal is to synergize and complement with China's Belt and Road Initiative and other Mekong sub-regional mechanisms so as to build a community of shared future of peace and prosperity among the member countries," he said in the presentation.

Siphana, who is also a senior advisor to the Cambodian government, said Cambodia is very appreciative of China's LMC Special Fund of 300 million U.S. dollars launched in 2016 to support small and medium projects proposed by the LMC member countries.

He said the outcomes of those cooperation projects would bring tangible benefits to the peoples in the Mekong region.

For Cambodia, Siphana said the country has received a total of 35 projects supported by the LMC Special Fund for 2017 and 2018, covering a broad scope of cooperation activities in the fields of agriculture, tourism, ICT, education and research, water resources, rural development, air connectivity, and cultural and religious exchanges.

Looking into the future, he said the LMC will strengthen mutual understanding and trust, beef up consultation and cooperation, and work together to build an open world economy, and a community of shared future of peace and prosperity among the Lancang-Mekong countries.
