JAKARTA, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Anti-terror squad of the Indonesian national police has arrested an alleged terrorist who had masterminded attacks by sleeper cells linked with IS group in Syria, police officer said here on Thursday.

The sleeper cells were part of the networks of the outlawed Jemaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD), which is an allegiance of the IS, in Indonesia, national police spokesman Brigadier General Dedi Prasetyo said.

Members of the JAD had been involved in several terrorist strikes in the country, including the multiple suicide attacks in East Java and Riau provinces in May 2018, and suicide attacks in a police station and cafe in the heart of Jakarta that killed eight people in January 2016.

"He was the person who had masterminded activities of several sleeper cells," the spokesman said at the national police headquarters.

The man with initial A was captured in a house at Utama Jaya village of Karawang district in West Java province on Wednesday night, he said.

The arrest came after the police developed information from another alleged terrorist with initial WP alias Sahid in Bandung of the province days ago, according to the spokesman.

The alleged militant had also been involved in multiple suicide strikes in East Java province in May last year that killed dozens of people, he said.

The spokesman said the information from WP was crucial which culminated to the revelation of several new terrorist suspects.

Wednesday's arrest has brought the number of alleged militant arrested by the squad in Sibolga town of North Sumatra province, Lampung province and West Java province to 12 in recent crackdown against the terrorists.
