SYDNEY, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Residents of Sydney are being called on to have their say about how city should look 30 years from now, with an online survey launched on Friday to capture their vision of the future.

The new survey will build on previous strategy, Sustainable Sydney 2030, which was developed with the community in 2008.

"I want to make sure that our new plan for Sydney is once again led by the community and informed by research and technical advice," Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore.

"We need to consider the kind of city people will inherit in 10, 20 and even 30 years' time and set new targets for the decades beyond 2030, to 2050."

According to Moore, already the city council has implemented a number of future building projects suggested by the community, although she adds that, "like other cities, we're facing significant challenges and it's time to plan even further into the future."

Sustainable Sydney 2030 has so far seen more than 250 projects completed, including the building and upgrading of more than 77 parks and 46 playgrounds, the planting of more than 12,000 street trees and a 200 kilometers long cycle network.

The initiative has also drawn focus on cutting emissions of government operations, which have reduced by 25 percent, and working with businesses and other cities around the world to do the same.

On top of that, Sydney is aiming to better recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture through a series of major artworks and an ongoing economic development plan.

Residents will be able to have their say online until April 22nd.
