KHARTOUM, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Sudan's Transitional Military Council (TMC) on Tuesday announced that it has agreed with major opposition forces on the general structure of rule during the transitional period.

The announcement was made by Shams-Eddin Kabashi, the TMC spokesman, at a press conference in Khartoum.

He said the TMC handed a written response on the constitutional document presented earlier by the opposition Freedom and Change Alliance.

He added that the TMC has some reservations about some points in the document, while hinting at the possibility of reaching consensus on those reservations.

He cited that the document did not include sources of legislation, duration of the transitional period, and powers of the sovereignty council to be formed.

On May 2, the opposition alliance submitted a constitutional document to the TMC relating to the institutions and arrangements of the transitional period.

The document stipulated that the joint sovereignty council should comprise 15 members, including eight civilians and seven military representatives.

It demanded that the civilian government include 17 ministers, and the power of declaring state of emergency be given to the civilian government.

The document also included formation of a transitional parliament of 120 members with a four-year term.

The TMC, chaired by Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, is tasked with running the country's affairs following the ouster of former President Omar al-Bashir in April.
