ULAN BATOR, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia on Friday formally commissioned a China-aided development center for disabled children here on the occasion of International Children's Day, which falls on June 1 every year.

"We are so delighted that the China-assisted medical center for disabled children was officially put into operation. The comprehensive medical center is the first of its kind in our country," Sanjaa Mungunchimeg, vice minister of labor and social protection of Mongolia, told Xinhua during the opening ceremony of the center.

Compared with other parents, parents of children with disabilities experience more psychiatric and financial problems, she said, noting that the center will help the parents solve their problems by offering consultations and health services to their children free of charge.

The vice minister described the medical center as a symbol of the long-standing traditional friendship between Mongolia and China.

Equipped with 250 beds and advanced medical devices, the development center can provide medical treatments for 250 outpatients a day.

"Today is a very happy day for me and other parents with disabled kids in the country," Munkhbat Munkhjargal, the father of a 10-year-old-boy with muscle weakness, told Xinhua.

"I would like to thank the Chinese government and people for giving the valuable gift to Mongolian children with disabilities," he added.

There are about 130,000 people with disabilities in Mongolia, 11 percent of whom are children, according to the Mongolian Ministry of Labor and Social Protection.
