NAPLES, Italy, July 13 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese athletic team claimed two silvers in women's half-marathon and men's 4x100 relay here on Saturday at Napoli Universiade.

The Japanese runners dominated the women's half-marathon by sweeping all the three medals and claiming the team gold as well. The Chinese trio from Tianjin Normal University won the team silver with Li Zhixuan finishing fifth, Zhang Deshun 11th and Jin Mingming 17th.

In the men's race, the Chinese runner Duo Bujie finished the third but was believed to take the water and cap from the team staff, which was judged as violation by the referee. The second ranking of team score was disqualified as a consequence.

The Chinese team official handed out the appeal to the jury to ask to maintain the result that Duo got the third position because there was only one time warning during the racing time and Duo only got one yellow card.

The jury replied that based on the video evidence and the report of the referee, they do not see a reason to overturn the referee's decision. The appeal is rejected and result stands.

In men's 4x100m relay, Jiang Jiehua/Jiang Hengnan/Wang Yu from Tsinghua University and Xuan Dajun from Sun Yat-sen University combined for the second clocking at 39.01.

They told Xinhua they did not run well in the individual competitions and really hoped to make full use of their energy to fight for the relay gold. The final result was one second faster than the qualification but still not their best.

Li Yi, the coach of the group, said, "We're coming for the champion because we're qualified for this. But we arrived too late; the students need to overcome the jet leg and many other difficulties. They just need more time to get fit. This is a lesson we should learn from."

The Chinese athletic team finished all the games by claiming one gold, two silver and two bronze medals. The Chinese delegation sits the fourth in the medal standings with 21-13-8.

Japan, Russia and the United States occupied the top three in the standings.

The closing ceremony of the Universiade will take place on Sunday night.
