CHANGCHUN, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Over 1,000 appearances of Siberian tigers and Amur leopards have been captured by a monitoring system in the past one and half years, authorities said Friday.

More than 100,000 appearances of wild animals such as sika deer were also recorded, according to the monitoring and research center of Siberian tigers and Amur leopards of China's forestry and grassland administration.

China launched the monitoring system in 2018 to track and manage the natural habitat of endangered Siberian tigers and Amur leopards in a 500-square-km area where the two species are frequently seen.

The system will cover the entire national park of 1.46 million hectares when construction of the park is completed in 2020. To better protect the two species, Chinese authorities decided to build the national park in the country's northeastern region in 2017.

The monitoring system collects real-time data on natural resources such as water, soil and air as well as data on the animals, which helps track the living conditions of Siberian tigers in the wild, said Feng Limin, vice director of the center.

Siberian tigers and Amur leopards, both listed among the world's most endangered species, live mostly in northeast China and Russia's far east. At least 27 wild Siberian tigers and 42 Amur leopards are believed to live in China.
