ANKARA, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Turkey has deployed a 12-vehicle military convoy in southern Sanliurfa province bordering Syria, state-run Anadolu Agency reported Wednesday.

The convoy, including armored vehicles and commando units, accompanied by gendarmerie forces, arrived at the 1st Division Border Company Command in Ceylanpinar district.

Turkey has been dispatching its military reinforcement along the border with Syria over the past month.

On July 8, a large Turkish military convoy comprising of 50 armored vehicles was sent to the southern province of Hatay.

Earlier in July, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar warned that his country may launch a new operation in northern Syria if the safe zone talks with the United States could not reach a deal.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu also said in an interview last week that Ankara will start the military operation in the east of the Euphrates if the safe zone is not established as planned.

During the recent talks, Turkey and the United States have not agreed on the size of the possible safe zone, who will control it, or the removal of Kurdish militants from the area, according to Cavusoglu.

In January, U.S. President Donald Trump proposed the creation of the safe zone as a solution to decrease tensions between Turkey and the U.S.-backed Kurdish Peoples' Protection Units militia, seen as a terrorist group by Ankara.
