TOKYO, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- A number of train lines in Tokyo were hit by power outages on Tuesday, leaving stranded passengers to bake in the heat as air-conditioning systems failed, causing some of them to be taken to hospital.

Local train operators and rescue officials said that eight trains were left stranded between stations on the line run by operator Keisei Electric Railway Co.

Trains were also stranded due to the power cut on the Toei Asakusa Line as well as the Hokuso Line, they said.

At around 8:30 a.m. local time, the power went out, rescue officials said, leaving around 15 people aged between 20 and 60 feeling ill and complaining of heat-related illnesses, with symptoms such as dizziness and numbness.

At the time, temperatures in the capital had already rocketed to 32.5 degrees centigrade.

Of nine people taken ill and rushed to hospital after being stranded on a train between Yotsugi Station and Yahiro Station on the Keisei Oshiage Line, all remained conscious, the Tokyo Fire Department said.

As for other trains that were stranded, including those running on the Keisei Main Line, Oshiage Line and Kanamachi Line, all passengers had been evacuated from the trains within around two hours, the operator said.

Among the other lines affected were the Asakusa Line and Keikyu trains also ran a suspended and temporary service.

Personnel at Keisei's Narita Airport Terminal 1 Station, at the time of the incident, were advising those heading into Tokyo to avoid local lines and to use major JR lines or alternative transport like buses or taxis, local media reported.
