BANGKOK, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Continuous heavy downpours, softening the soil underneath a bell tower at a local temple in Tha Song Yang, a northwestern-most district of Tak Province of Thailand, caused landslides, local media reported.

The body of the second landslide victim was pulled out from thick mud on Friday in Tha Song Yang, local media reported.

Thai TV channels showed that police, rangers and administrative officials continued search for other residents reported missing by their relatives.

Local media reported that the body of the first victim who died from landslide in the district was retrieved on Wednesday.

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) on Friday issued warnings, especially to residents of eastern and southern provinces, to brace themselves for heavy rains from Friday to Sunday.

The TMD also warned of sudden flooding and flash floods due to heavy rain and accumulated downfall until Sunday.

The warnings were made due to the strengthening of the southwestern monsoon, which is looming over the Andaman Sea, the Gulf and the southern region.

It also said that rough seas in the Andaman Sea with waves between two to four meters high and choppy seas in upper part of the Gulf with waves between two to three meters high were also forecast, and sailors are advised to exercise extra caution and avoid storm areas where the waves may reach over four meters.
