HAIKOU, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- On an old street in the southern Chinese city of Haikou, a large crowd gathered to watch a young Vietnamese perform yangko, a folk-style Chinese dance.

The performer, Quang Van Viet, is one of the attendees of the second China-ASEAN University Students' Culture Week that concluded Wednesday in Haikou, capital of the island province of Hainan.

"I have always found yangko interesting. Attending the culture week offers me the opportunity to learn more about it," said Quang, a senior at the Vietnam Academy of Dance.

Over the past week, art students from China, the Republic of Korea and seven ASEAN member countries held various cultural activities together, including dancing and a short video contest.

"We shared dancing skills and made friends with each other," said Quang, who learned yangko dance from students of Dalian Art College (DAC) in northeast China.

In the meantime, DAC students took a liking to Thai dance.

"After watching the Thai dance, my students liked it so much that they joined the performance onstage," said Dong Xun, a teacher at DAC.

The Chinese students performed a dance called "Ganhaile," which features the scene of people fetching seafood on the beach when the tide ebbs.

"The culture week creates an opportunity for different sea cultures to communicate with one another," said Dong.

Kong Roatlomang, director of the education, culture and tourism division of ASEAN-China Center, hailed the robust people-to-people exchange between China and ASEAN.

The people-to-people exchanges have played an important role in underpinning sound and sustainable growth of the strategic partnership between the two sides, said Kong.

Nipha Sophasamrith, president of Bunditpatanasilpa Institute of Thailand, hoped that China would have more cooperation with ASEAN countries in more areas in the future.
